If you are thinking about beginning a new woodworking project , before you even use any equipment you should definitely be thinking about safety in the workshop in order to reduce the chances of an accident occuring. As there are so many dangerous machines around in workshops, failure to stay safe could end in disaster.

Health and safety in the workshop is very important and if you fail to make sure that you are safe whenever working with dangerous tools and machines then it can have disastrous circumstances. Most of these safety tips are pretty much basic common sense but it's shocking how many people do not take note of these tips and risk serious injury to themselves and others. When you begin making yourself more aware of doing these things whenever you are in the workshop it will soon become like second nature to you and you will do them without even thinking about it.

Wear The Proper Protective Gear - Some protective equipment you should always be wearing when in the workshop, like goggles for example that will protect your eyes. Eyes are extremely fragileand it only needs a small scratch from some thing to cause severe damage. Additional safety equipment is only required while using specific tools or machinery so you should always attempt to keep the apparatus beside the apparatus or tools that you need it for, that way you will find it much easier to remember to put them on.

Don't Drink Alcohol Inside a Work shop - This may seem like a stupid thing to speak about however plenty of fellas like having a few beers while working on their latest wood worker project. But this could be very risky when it comes to using machinery and equipment which could severely hurt you and the slightest lack of concentration could result in a really major accident.

Dress in Appropriate Garments - Wearing loose-fitting garments is incredibly dangerous within the workshop as things can easily get caught up in apparatus, so just be sure that you are wearing sensible garments that won t be in the way also make sure that you take off any jewelery too.

Keep Your Fingers Far from Blades - You should not put your hands in the vicinity of any sort of blade when it is in motion. If you have to grab or perhaps move something from near a blade then the smartest thing to do is always to wait until the machine has totally stopped and even then, when it is possible for you to make use of another piece of wood or something like that in order to retrieve the object then that's the best thing to do. This really is something that many people fail to do but in my opinion is something that MUST be done. All it takes is for some thing to bump the switch while your changing the blade and you would have a serious problem indeed. It's not going to hurt someone to turn things off safely for a few seconds and it could severely injure you if you do not bother doing it.

I have been keen on woodwork for many years now and I love to teach and help people with any kind of woodshop projects.
